Homeschooling Series: Part 1: Our Why

 Hey Friends!

This week starts my Homeschooling Blog Series. I'll be sharing everything from Our Why to dealing with Negative Opinions to our Favorite Resources. Sharing all of the inspiration and motivation for you, whether you're on the fence making the decision, just starting to homeschool or looking to incorporate different resources into your homeschool.

These series of posts will be published every Sunday, starting today.

Disclaimer: This series, in no way, will be to bash teachers. We do believe there are many great teachers out there. This is about our personal journey with Homeschooling.

Today, I'll be sharing Our Why.

Back in late 2011, I was about 6 months pregnant for our daughter when we started talking about our future and the best decisions for our family. Our first conversation was schooling. How we wanted our daughter to be educated and our belief system behind formal schooling. Once we had the conversation going, I started my research. I was already a Homemaker at the time, so it made sense to explore this option.

Why Did We Choose Homeschooling?

Choosing to Homeschool was easy. We never had to think twice about it. Right around the time our daughter was born, things in the school system started changing. We started seeing an uptick in bullying, lack of teaching effort and negative morals affecting classrooms. We are very much a family who believes in traditional family values & and what we started to see through the system wasn't sitting well with us. We didn't want our daughter exposed to so much corruption and negativity.

Why Do We Still Homeschool?

Referring to the statement above, unfortunately, the moral standards in the school system have gotten much worse over the years. Additionally, homeschooling has given us the freedom, as parents, to control what and how we want our daughter to learn and absorb information. Every year, I can completely customize her curriculum, schedule and learning style to fit best in our seasons of life. More on our style of Homeschooling coming soon in a future post.

Why Will We Homeschool Until the End?

We are about 8 years into Homeschooling; starting 8th grade in the Fall of 2025. We believe the Jr. High and High School years are the most crucial when it comes to learning life skills and most importantly, how to combat peer pressure and societal trends. While we know we can't shield her from everything forever, we believe we have one shot at making sure she goes into adulthood with the best morals, values, sense and life skilled education as possible. Society is everchanging and it's our responsibility, as parents, to ensure she grows up to be the best person she can possibly be.

I've pretty much kept this post short, sweet and to the point. We have strong beliefs in this way of life and will be here to encourage anyone wanting to take the journey. Never think you can't Homeschool your kids. You can! You do not need a college degree to raise or educate them.

Here are some wonderful Homeschooling Quotes to inspire you:

"When we focus on instilling a love of learning over a list of requirements, we can almost guarantee that our children's education won't end when they leave our homes." -- Unknown

It's always "wow, how will your homeschooler socialize?" and never "wow, your child can talk to the mailman about lizards for 26 minutes." -- Your Natural Learner

Never let anyone tell you that you aren't capable of teaching your child. You taught your child how to walk and speak. You can teach your child anything you're willing to learn. If a subject seems out of your grasp, you'll find a way for your child to learn it." -- Simple Living Mama

Stop making Homeschooling something you "do" and make it a lifestyle of learning." -- September McCarthy
