Work Smarter, Not Harder
Hey Friends!
On today's blog, I'm talking about the lessons we've learned in business and how to work smarter, not harder. Stay focused and in the game.
Even though we owned a few businesses in our 17 year marriage, Breaux Farms has been around the longest. Thinking back on how we used to run the farm, we've learned a thing or two to make it easier on ourselves. Let's chat!
Passion Comes First
First and foremost, you have to have passion behind the business you start. If you don't 100% love what you're doing, you will get discouraged really easily and it will reflect in your business.
Before we started marketing Breaux Farms as a business, we didn't go into the lifestyle with a business mindset. We started it wanting to learn how to live as self-sustainably as possible, sharing our knowledge with others and making connections in the Homesteading community. The business side just kind of fell into place later on.
Produce What Your Customers Want
Let's say you're offering four different items, and one sells our consistently more than others. Keep offering the same product. Unless it's super seasonal, never let your loyal customers ask if you'll have the item available. If they're a repeat customer, they will want their favorites available.
Don't Waste Your Time or Ingredients
Let's say you're offering a certain product, and it sells for a while but then starts becoming less and less popular. Discontinue it for a while. Why waste your time and ingredients on something that won't sell?
Change your menu every couple of weeks or so. Offer something new. Keep it fresh and exciting. It's okay to admit an item doesn't sell and move on to something new.
Stay Consistent & Convenient
There's nothing more deal breaking for your customers than inconsistency. Nowadays, people are more conservative with their money. So, when they find a product they really enjoy, they want to keep having it readily available.
Furthermore, people like convenience. If you're promoting a Market and are trying to drive your customers to it, then be consistently convenient for your locals. Nothing is more frustrating to a customer then having the time to go to their favorite Market and it's not open.
Social Media Expectations & Consistency
Social media is the modern-day way to communicate anything these days. We can't escape it. However, don't focus your attention on the amount of interaction you receive. Many people get discouraged when their followers, likes, comments and shares don't meet their expectations. Don't worry, people see you.
We never focus on the amount of interaction we receive. It won't make or break our business or the passion we have for it. Customers who truly love our product will keep coming back and those are the people who really matter in business. Our people.
The best thing you can do with social media, is again, stay consistent. Come up with different content ideas. Post your projects and plans. What you're baking or building. People like to see what you're up to.
Learn Your Demographic
We have to be honest. We recently realized how important this little tidbit is in business. When we learned our demographic of people, we adjusted and dedicated ourselves to those customers. Not everyone is your customer. If your product attracts the right people, you will thrive in your business.
Competition, Comparison and Imposter Syndrome
These are all a fool proof way to fail at a business. Letting yourself get caught up in self-doubt and comparing yourself to others will eventually drive you to quit. Combat this by thinking outside of the box with your products. Be different and unique. Offer things others don't. Trying to compete with the same products as others will just cause anxiety and anger within yourself.
Something else to realize, especially in the Farm business, there will be other people who carry the same products as you. That's a given. It's how you market yourself and your knowledge that will stand out from the rest. Of course, for certain things like Herbal Wellness, you have to have a pretty good educational base behind you before you can give advice to anyone.
I've just recently finished my Introductory Course at the Herbal Academy and earned my first certificate. Follow me at Wild Root Wellness on Facebook to join me on my continuing education journey.
I hope this helps anyone feeling discouraged or doubtful in their business. We can't a say these mindsets don't still creep up on us sometimes but with age and experience, we're a lot better. lol
